First, let us congratulate Anupam and Dipankar for breaking the jinx that Prelims cannot be cleared from Kolkata: the abyss for the Civil Service Exams. In fact, Dipankar has done it for the third consecutive time.
On the other hand, the aura of the said exams seem to be proliferating on the count of its supposed "change in pattern". CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) is likely to replace the Prelims. Simply put, two GS papers, compulsory for all the candidates. A formal UPSC notification is yet to come out though!
The upshot is UPSC shall stress more on deductive analytical capability of the candidates rather than on the fact retention capacity. Fine and great.
We welcome the change as it would provide a level playing field for all the candidates. However, one thing is unclear at this juncture; i.e. the syllabus of GS-II.
And that makes life a bit difficult for the aspirants. How to go about the preparations? And what to study?
Well, we prescribe the aspirants to have an "open mind" for the GS preparation. Your old model of GS notwithstanding; till the formal notification arrives, stress on Environment, Indian Economy, Security Issues, Reasoning and if possible some aspects of Public Administration and Sociology, particularly Administrative Behaviour and Politics-Society interaction.
Enjoy the new journey.
More Later.
